A Spring Mountain Haiku
This September I ran a four day Overland track with my co-guide Pete. Four days because it was a Gold Duke of Edinburgh trip, we acted largely as chaperones as students required displays of leadership in order to pass their assessment.
Walking into Pelion Hut on our third day I noticed for the first time that the Currawong pellets that dot the boardwalk were not filled with the usual pink remnants of Mountain Berry. They marked available food sources of the time, and I decided to write a haiku to commemorate the noticing of something new.
Starving Currawong
Throat filled with cutting grass seeds
September snow
Pete seemed to enjoy it!
